Conversion courses

Do you want to start a new career, change direction or explore a different subject area? You can with a postgraduate conversion course.

Callum studied an undergraduate science degree at NTU, but a work placement inspired him to switch to law. Hear Callum’s story.

What is a conversion course?

A conversion course is a postgraduate qualification open to graduates from different subject areas. They're designed to prepare you for a career unrelated to your undergraduate degree. Some are professionally accredited or lead to further professional qualifications, and others enable you to gain skills in a new area.

In certain professions, such as law, teaching, psychology, nursing and surveying, a conversion course is essential if you don’t already have the relevant qualifications. In other areas, a conversion course can help to boost your employability in a changing job market.

Can you do a conversion course without a degree?

We consider applicants without an undergraduate degree on an individual basis. If you have relevant professional experience or can demonstrate your ability to study at Masters level, you may be able to study a conversion course. Check the entry requirements on your course page for the full details.

If you are an international student and need help achieving the entry requirements for postgraduate study, you can complete a Pre-Masters course. This is an opportunity for you to improve your academic skills, subject knowledge and English language before starting your Masters.
