In today’s rapidly changing business environment, professionals need learning that is flexible, relevant, and immediately applicable. Microcredentials offer a powerful way to upskill, reskill, and future‑proof your career—without stepping away from work. At Nottingham Business School (NBS), microcredentials are designed to support professionals and organisations with practical, high‑impact development that can also lead to a recognised postgraduate qualification.

What is a microcredential?

A microcredential is a short, focused, university‑level course designed to develop specific professional skills and knowledge. At NBS, microcredentials are credit‑bearing and closely aligned to real workplace challenges. Most are worth 10 credits, with some larger modules worth 20 credits, and are available online or on campus, depending on the subject. Their flexible structure allows learners to balance study alongside professional and personal commitments.

How microcredentials benefit professional careers

Microcredentials deliver immediate value in the workplace. They enable professionals to:

  • build targeted expertise in key business and leadership areas
  • apply learning directly to organisational challenges
  • strengthen confidence, capability and resilience in leadership roles
  • stay current with areas such as digital transformation, AI, sustainability and fintech
  • progress in their career while continuing to work.

Stack your learning into a Postgraduate Certificate

One of the unique benefits of NBS’s microcredentials is that they are stackable. Learners can combine microcredentials to build towards a Postgraduate Certificate in Leadership and Management Practice.

The Postgraduate Certificate is awarded at 60 credits and microcredentials can be accumulated over up to eight years. Learners can ‘pick and mix’ modules to suit their career goals. Study can take place online, on campus, or through a blended approach. This flexible framework allows professionals to design a learning journey that evolves alongside their career, while still achieving a recognised postgraduate qualification.
