Nottingham Language Centre

Nottingham Language Centre (NLC) delivers innovative programmes of professional development, academic training and English and foreign language learning across a broad portfolio of certificates, undergraduate and postgraduate degrees and short courses. We are accredited by both the British Council and English UK.

For those who want to enter the field of English Language Teaching (ELT) and gain a recognised qualification, we offer a joint honours undergraduate degree in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL), a Certificate in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (CELTA) and a Masters in TESOL. For those who already teach and want to progress their careers, we offer a Masters in ELT.

To support NTU’s international students the NLC provides the Pre-sessional English for academic purposes (PEAP) course, which helps develop the academic language and skills students need to begin their studies at NTU. We also provide Academic English classes for students who are already engaged in undergraduate or postgraduate degree study. These classes help them to develop the academic language and literacy skills all students need to make the most of their studies. In addition, the NLC delivers free non-academic English Language classes throughout the year for external students.

We are also home to the University Language Programme (ULP), currently providing nine key foreign language courses to over 1100 NTU students and the general public. This includes Arabic, English / Business English, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Mandarin Chinese and Spanish. Our language classes are delivered at various levels of proficiency from beginner to advanced.

We work with a number of international partner institutions including the Communication University of China in Beijing, the Shanghai Culture and Creativity Centre and I-Shou University in Taiwan. We provide in-country Academic English classes to support the School’s collaborative degree programmes. We also collaborate with the VNUK Institute for Research and Executive Education in Vietnam in joint delivery of our MA ELT course.
