Susan Hallam MBE – Building a business from scratch
Entrepreneur Susan Hallam MBE arrived in Nottingham from America in 1985. She knew very few people and had no professional network. Fifteen years later, with two young children and a mortgage, she left a secure job at Capital One to launch Hallam Communications.
What began as a one-person business grew into an award-winning digital marketing agency, working with organisations around the world. Susan also became a passionate champion of Nottingham’s business and creative communities and was awarded an MBE for her contribution to entrepreneurship
In 2020, she handed day-to-day control of Hallam to her management team through a management buyout. The company became employee-owned in 2025.
