Employability

Due to the School's excellent reputation within the legal profession, our graduates are highly sought-after and recognised for the depth and relevance of their knowledge.

Our courses are designed to develop knowledge and expertise in the law, and to build transferable skills.

While our LLM courses do not replace vocational qualifications (such as the SQE and BTC courses), they can be an excellent foundation for building legal knowledge or working towards a wide variety of other career paths, including:

  • Academia – lecturer (often following a PhD), educational consultant, legal writer;
  • Legal and public sector roles – paralegal, court registrar, civil servant, compliance officer, police;
  • International and policy – NGOs and international institutions, policy advisor.
  • Business and consultancy – business analyst, HR business partner, business consultant, risk analyst;
  • Technology and innovation – AI specialist, data analyst, think tanks.

Employer Challenges

As part of your course, you will participate in employer-led challenges – realistic project briefs designed by industry professionals. Working in groups, you will research, problem-solve, and present your recommendations, to develop key professional competencies such as ethical conduct, commercial awareness and collaboration.

These challenges are designed to align with the various course specialisms.

Real-world experience at NLS

During your master’s studies, you’ll have the opportunity to enrich your academic learning with practical experience through NLS Legal, our multi-award-winning on-campus law firm. Here, students work on real cases with real clients, gaining insight into how legal principles operate in practice and developing valuable research, communication and problem-solving skills.

You can also volunteer with Support Through Court, assisting individuals navigating the court system and strengthening your client-facing and interpersonal abilities. These experiences are highly beneficial whether you choose to pursue further professional training for the legal profession, continue into academic research, or follow a different career path where analytical and people-focused skills are essential.
