Department of Sport Science

Our department addresses current and contemporary issues within sport, exercise and physical activity in world-class facilities that students, researchers and industry can gain access to. Our courses encourage students to put theory into practice by providing multiple opportunities for hands-on learning to enhance the student experience.

Our courses were developed with our sport, exercise and health networks, no matter which degree you choose, students will develop a range of transferable skills desirable in a variety of professional contexts. The sports team collaborate with a range of partners, to offer students industry-relevant experience.

Our facilities for student, research and commercial use include: a British Olympic Association-approved environmental chamber, performance analysis and nutrition suite, biomechanics and exercise physiology labs, sport and leisure management suite, and our sport and exercise psychology lab.

We have strong partnerships with many local and national sports clubs, councils and sporting bodies, where the department's research expertise and development projects positively benefit the sporting community. Our team of sport scientists, sport psychologists, nutritionists and management specialists are experienced at working with and improving the performance of sports men and women at all levels, as well as individuals, teams and organisations from within the public and corporate sectors. Quite simply, we are committed to demonstrating and making available our knowledge, expertise and facilities to aid and solve sporting problems.
