Role

Ian Seymour teaches on various undergraduate courses within the PMD group in the SADBE. In particular, he teaches planning and development matters to students in levels one, two and three, as well as teaching law to L1 students.

He is module leader for the Developing Land and Property module at L2 of the surveying courses in the PMD group.

Career overview

Ian Seymour has been teaching full time at the University since January 2008. Previous to that he accumulated over 25 years experience as a town planner and development consultant working in a variety of local government and private sector posts throughout the country.

In particular, he spent eight years working as a planning consultant for the national planning and development consultancy, DPDS, working as an Associate Director for clients including the Ministry of Defence, Sea Containers Ltd and various national and regional house builders. He then joined the law firm Freeth Cartwright as Senior Associate. Most recently, he worked for SOL Homes, as their land and Planning Manager. Here he was responsible for the identification and acquisition of sites, and for taking them through the planning system to commencement on site.

During his career, in addition to negotiating a wide variety of development schemes through the planning process for clients throughout the country, Ian has appeared at numerous Local Plan PI’s and at EIP’s relating to Structure Plans and Regional Planning Guidance for the East Midlands.
