Nottinghamshire Clubs for Young People (Notts CYP)
The Notts CYP is a not-for-profit organisation passionate about helping young people in Nottinghamshire be healthy, safe, confident, and successful. It owns the Monty Hind Centre and the Maurice Youdell Lodge and hire out both spaces to many other youth groups and clubs across Nottinghamshire, alongside providing education and training through accredited courses. Many of the young people that attend these clubs have a disability or learning difficulty, and so the club provides a safe and supportive environment for them to learn new skills and experiences.
Background
Notts CYP wanted to increase the number of bookings the Maurice Youdell Lodge received but were unsure how to market their offer. Nottingham Business School (NBS) assigned a team of MSc Marketing students, including those with knowledge on Brand Management, digital marketing, and advertising, to tackle this challenge.
Approach
A team of students was assigned the challenge and worked over the course of several weeks, meeting regularly 3 or 4 times each week, collaborating, and sharing research. A team leader acted as the key point of contact for the charity. This work included interviewing key members of staff, using established business theory and models to back up their recommendations, and drawing on individual skills and experience to work effectively as a team.
On presentation day, the team confidently delivered a 20 minute presentation outlining their recommendations on how Notts CYP could effectively market the Maurice Youdell Lodge, and helped the client visualise what short to mid-term priorities they should focus on.
Impact
Notts CYP were overwhelmed at the effort the students put into their research and recommendations.
Lisa Barker, CEO, commented that the recommendations were beyond what the charity would ever have considered and that the Board of Trustees will be meeting soon to formulate a plan on the recommended actions.
