NBS Bright

We're turning the bright ideas of Nottingham Business School final year students into a bright future for your organisation.

#NBSbright

Group work consultancy

The future can be Bright! Tap into the talent of final year Nottingham Business School (NBS) students to help develop your organisation and deliver positive change.

#NBSBright is an innovative NBS business challenge designed to help businesses of all sizes to prosper. Our students can offer a fresh perspective to help with a range of challenges, for example, how to build your brand and become more responsive to customer demands and market volatility, how to capitalise on your success, grow your profits, cut your cost base, or streamline your operations.

Students can also research new markets for your products and services, and could even create the next bright idea to propel your business forward.

How does it work?

If you have a business challenge, or piece of research you need to do and require some fresh thinking, our highly motivated students can help to provide bright ideas for the future of your business.

All you need to do is submit an #NBSBright business challenge, and a member of our team will be in touch with you to confirm that it has been accepted into the project and will be supported by our students.

Groups of students, supported by NBS academics, will explore your challenge and provide succinct analysis, findings and recommendations in the form of a PowerPoint presentation with voiceover supporting notes sent to you via email. Covid restrictions permitted you will be invited to meet with the students at the end of the project to discuss their response to your challenge.

The deadline for submissions for Autumn 2021 has now passed. If you have any questions about NBS Bright please contact NBSStudentProjects@ntu.ac.uk.

Your business challenge

Marketing Consultancy students

We aim to ensure that #NBSBright is easy for organisations to engage with. Please aim to include as much detail as possible in your submission, and we'll lead on the rest of the process. Once your challenge is accepted and the brief given to students you will get an opportunity to engage in a virtual meeting with student groups and tutors.

We wish to encourage submissions from organisations of all sizes. Please do feel free to submit more than one challenge. Final year students from all of our Business School courses will be taking part, meaning that you can submit a challenge(s) related to any area of your operations. Some ideas include:

  • Recovery from the impacts of COVID-19
  • Market research
  • Project management
  • Staff well-being
  • Recruitment and /or retention
  • Home-working
  • Corporate Social Responsibility
  • Cutting costs or growing profits
  • Finance and budgeting
  • Creativity and innovation challenges

These challenges form an assessed part of our degree programmes and therefore this is a FREE opportunity for participating organisations.

If you are unsure if your challenge idea is suitable or would like help to develop a challenge, please email NBSStudentProjects@ntu.ac.uk to arrange an informal chat.

FAQs

Our Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) should answer any questions you have about #NBSBright. If you have any further questions, please contact us at NBSStudentProjects@ntu.ac.uk.

When will the projects start and how long will they run?

The #NBSBright projects will start at the beginning of October 2021 which is when the student groups will get to see the challenge they’ve been assigned for the first time.

The projects end in late November, after about 7 weeks of group work by each student team.

How much involvement would you need from me and my business?

We know how busy you are, and so expect there to be only minimal involvement from you during the life of the project. Once your challenge is accepted and the brief given to students, you will get an opportunity to engage in a virtual meeting with student groups and tutors. This will allow you to give the students background and context to your challenge and answer questions they may have. COVID restrictions permitted you will be invited to meet with the students at the end of the project to discuss their response to your challenge. We do not anticipate that you will have direct contact with the teams during the project, any questions the students have during the project will be fielded by the tutors.

What will the student teams be doing?

The students are being evaluated on their ability to work together professionally, to apply relevant knowledge and skills to the challenge they have been assigned, and to develop a quality presentation outlining their findings, analysis, and their recommendations. During the whole process they’ll have access to the resources of the University as well as an Academic Supervisor to guide them.

What do I get at the end?

By mid-December, after the students’ work has been assessed by NBS staff, you will be sent a copy of the outputs produced for your business from a selection of the teams assigned to your challenge. You can expect a PowerPoint presentation with voiceover and notes pages, to include analysis, findings and recommendations pertaining to your challenge. You will also receive a costed action plan (if applicable to your challenge).  You can take away what you want from each of the outputs, and we’ll follow up with you to get your thoughts and feedback afterwards.

We can arrange for you to meet with one or more of your student teams at the end of the project if you wish, especially if you’d particularly like to discuss their analysis and recommendations in more detail.

Does it cost anything?

Apart from a little of your time there is no cost to taking part.

Can I submit more than one challenge?

Yes, please feel free to propose more than one challenge. Please complete a separate application for each of your challenges.

How do I apply and when is the deadline?

The deadline for 2021 applications was 31 July 2021.

How will I know if my application has been successful?

After you have submitted your challenge it will be checked by a member of the NBS team, and we’ll be in touch as soon as we can. If we feel that your challenge may need to be tweaked to suit the project we will discuss this with you.

If you have an idea for a challenge and would like to discuss with a member of our team, please email NBSStudentProjects@ntu.ac.uk to arrange an informal chat. We can help you to draw out a challenge from any ideas you may have.
