International student enrolment
Whether you’re new to NTU, or returning, please follow these steps to complete your enrolment with us as an international undergraduate or postgraduate student.
A step-by-step guide
New students
Your NTU ID number is in the email that you will receive when your place at NTU is confirmed.
Your NTU ID will look like this: N0123456.
Your password
Follow the "get or reset password" link on our enrolment page to get your password. When prompted to input a postcode, use NG1 4BU.
Once you have your password, log in using this along with your NTU ID to complete your online enrolment.
Your enrolment will be in two stages: online and then in person at the International Enrolment Event to complete your passport and visa checks.
You will be able to see any outstanding enrolment actions and advice on how to resolve these on your enrolment summary page. Make sure all elements of your enrolment are ticked as ‘complete’, including your fee payment and any holds you may have applied to your record.
Your 'Passport and Visa check' can only be completed when you arrive on campus. For these you should attend the International Enrolment Event.
You’ll need to pay your tuition fees in full or have set up two further instalments to be paid by the deadlines required in order to fully enrol on your course. You can do this before you arrive as part of the online enrolment process. If you chose to set up two instalments, no money will be taken out of your account until the first instalment date, all dates can be found on our website.
We recommend that you set up a UK bank account when you arrive. If you wish, you can then amend which bank account you use to pay your instalment plan, by following our advice on making a payment.
You'll also find payment advice for international students and advice and guidance for sponsored students online.
Head to our photo upload portal to complete the process of ordering your NTU Student Card. You’ll find a link to the portal once you get to the enrolment summary page.
The last day to order your card online will be 4 September 2025. This will ensure student cards will be printed for your arrival from 12 September onwards.
After 4 September 2025 you will no longer need to upload a photo and you will be able to collect your student card in person at NTU.
This includes those students’ starting courses in January 2026.
Your photo must be:
- A head and shoulder shot,
- unaltered by computer software,
- in colour,
- well lit (not too bright, not too dark),
- taken against a neutral background,
- taken recently (within the last three months),
clear and in focus.
Once you've successfully uploaded your passport-style photo, your NTU Student Card will be printed and available at your preferred collection point on campus.
Once you pick up your NTU Student Card, you will need to activate it – please do this as soon as possible.
Your student card is your University ID Card for the duration of your studies. It also gives you access to University buildings, enables printing and photocopying, and it can be used as a cash card within NTU.
Instructions on how to activate your NTU Student Card will be provided in the enclosed letter with your card. Please activate your card as soon as you pick it up.
Your card gives you access to:
- University buildings,
- printers and photocopiers, and,
- can be used as a cash card across NTU’s campuses.
After 4 September 2025, all new student cards will be produced face-to-face onsite at NTU by Card Services and will be automatically activated. This includes those students starting courses in January 2026.
View the full list of Card Services FAQs together with the Terms and Conditions.
When you complete your online enrolment, confirm if you wish to register with a University Student Health Centre. We strongly recommend that you register with a doctor close to where you live – as a student living in Nottingham, you must be registered in order to receive treatment for any illness while you are at university. Don't wait until you feel ill or need a repeat prescription.
All international students have access to NHS healthcare after paying the NHS healthcare surcharge. This will have been paid as part of the visa application process and entitles you to free healthcare on the NHS. You will need to register with a GP practice when you arrive.
For those living on/near campus:
- City Campus – register online with Radford Medical Practice
- Clifton Campus – register online with Sunrise Medical Practice
- Brackenhurst Campus – contact Southwell Medical Centre directly for registration instructions.
For Mansfield and London, or students living further from campus, you can find a local medical practice that is convenient for you.
The University practices provide services including:
- Appointments with a doctor, practice nurse or health care assistant,
- sexual health and contraception advice,
- new patient and general health checks,
- asthma checks,
- blood pressure checks,
- screening for sexually transmitted infections,
- blood tests,
- travel advice and immunisation,
- vaccinations,
- breast examination advice,
- stitch removal,
- dietary advice,
- employment and insurance medicals,
- emergencies out of hours.
Medical emergencies
If you have an urgent medical problem outside of surgery hours, you can:
- call your surgery
- visit the NHS Urgent Care Centre walk-in service, open between 7 am-9 pm
- go to 111.nhs.uk or call 111
- or visit A&E. Find your nearest A&E.
Find further information and guidance on how to register at a local GP practice, book an appointment with your GP, and order repeat prescriptions online here. You can also visit the NHS website. Don't forget to check that you are up to date with all your vaccinations, such as Meningitis ACWY, which is recommended and free for all new students under the age of 25.
Registering with a dentist
It is important to register with a local dentist when living in Nottingham. You can surgeries using the NHS Service Search.
Returning students
You’ll receive an "invitation to enrol" to your NTU email address. Go to our enrolment portal and log in using your NTU ID and password.
Please ensure that your personal contact details and emergency contact information is up to date.
You'll be able to make payment arrangements for your fees and check your instalment dates after completing your online enrolment.
International Student Enrolment Event
All international students must attend our International Enrolment Event to complete enrolment. This is where we will carry out checks of your passport, visa and entry to the UK (flight information). There will also be an opportunity to discuss your tuition fee payments, ask our team any questions you might have, and collect your NTU student card.
eVisa
From Wednesday 1 January 2025, all new arrivals need to provide an eVisa as part of the Government’s scheme to phase out Biometric Residence Permits (BRPs). An eVisa is an online record of your immigration status and the conditions of your permission to enter or stay in the UK.
To access your eVisa, you need to create a UKVI account or sign into your account if you already have one. You must do this yourself, and it cannot be completed by an International Agent. You must also ensure that your details are up-to-date and accurate.
Please register your eVisa account before attending the Enrolment Event.
Once you have your eVisa, and attend the International Enrolment Event, you will need to:
- access the ‘View and Prove’ service within the UKVI account,
- select the ‘Other’ option to generate a unique share code.
Provide your passport, share code and flight evidence to staff at the International Enrolment Event to prove your Right to Study in the UK.
International Enrolment opening times
It can take up to one hour to complete your in-person enrolment. At times it can be busy and you may need to wait to see our staff. Please book an appointment slot for your visa and passport checks by visiting our new International Enrolment Event booking system.
Please note, if you arrive outside of our opening times you should visit your nearest Student Services Centre to show your documents for enrolment. Check their opening times on StudentHub to ensure you arrive at a time when someone will be able to help you.
We recommend that you complete online enrolment steps before you attend enrolment in person. Please refer to the instructions above for this.
