In such a short time, Sophia touched us all with her affectionate smile and kind heart. Her determination to help women and less privileged students to succeed in engineering was infectious and her legacy will live on in us all at NTU.

It was with great pleasure that we recruited Sophia to the post here in the Department of Engineering at NTU. She quickly became a highly valued colleague, a bright beacon in the Department. In a short time she had started to see results from her work, and was building a reputation for having wisdom and experience in opening up education for all. Her sudden loss was a great shock to the Department and she will be missed. Our sympathies go to the family and you are in our thoughts at this time.

As Dean of the School of Science and Technology, I would like to express my heartfelt condolence for your great loss. I interviewed Sophia for the lectureship position in Engineering at NTU and was bowled over by her insight into many of the current issues in Engineering, such as the lack of women engineers in Europe compared to Africa. She had exciting plans to promote engineering to women and showed enormous promise and enthusiasm for her new role. Sophia was a bright star and we are so sad to lose such a dynamic colleague who, within a short time, made a big impact through her proactive support for our foundation year students. My sympathy is with you and all of Sophia’s family and friends at this very sad time.

It was a shock to hear of Sophia's passing. I had only known her for a short while but she was such a pleasure to work with with a 'sunny personality'. My condolences go to her family.

I only had the opportunity to work with Sophia once or twice, but in the brief time we communicated, she was a joy to talk to. She will be a huge loss to the department, despite only being part of it for a short period. My sympathies to her friends and family.
