Book of condolences - John Kelly

The University understands how difficult it can be when we lose someone close to us. We have opened up this online book of condolence to bring together tributes.

If you would like to offer your condolences or pay tribute you are invited to leave a message on this page.

It is with great sadness we announce the death of John Kelly, a second year student on the BA (hons) Business Management and Marketing course.

John was a rising star, an NBS student who engaged in and contributed fully to his studies. All of the tutors who taught and supported John remarked on how he ‘brought light and laughter’ into the sessions. John was a popular student who made many friends both in his group and the wider cohort.

He was first to volunteer to support other students and share his experience and excitement of being at NTU. He was a valued member of the Outreach Ambassador Team for the Centre for Student and Community Engagement acting as a positive educational role model for disadvantaged young people in the local community.

John was an active member of the NTU Climbing and Mountaineering Club and a keen climber.

John was always keen to learn and to soak in all that University offered. His first year results were outstanding and yet he always wanted to know how he could get better and improve.

John will be very missed by his fellow students, friends, tutors, staff and networks across the NBS and NTU community. Gone too soon.

Our deepest condolences to his family at this difficult time.

Getting to know John through his work as an Outreach Ambassador was a pleasure. The first shift we worked together John came sprinting round the corner with a big smile on his face. I asked him why he was sprinting and he said he didn't want to be late. He was 10 minutes early. It was from that first impression of John that I knew he would be a fantastic Ambassador for us and that was the case as first and foremost, he cared. John's personality was infectious and the young people we work with always took to him. Aware of the young people he was with, John was able to change his approach with ease and make the pupils comfortable in his presence. It was wonderful to hear John talk so positively about his family, specifically his large amount of sisters. Condolences to his family and friends. The world was a better place with John in it. Rest in peace.

I only met John briefly through his work as an Outreach Ambassador, but he really stood out from the crowd. His enthusiasm was infectious and he lifted those around him. Sending deepest sympathy, strength and peace to all his family and friends.

John was a delight to work with on the Students in Classrooms Outreach Ambassador scheme. His energy and enthusiasm for talking to, and working with, young people was infectious and sessions where John was involved were a joy to oversee.
I was in the privileged position to be Johns mentor for his role as an Outreach Ambassador. Throughout our conversations he spoke with love about his family and sisters, taking great joy in being the youngest sibling and all that that offered him. To echo the comments made by his course team, John sought every opportunity to improve and develop when acting as a role model for local students ensuring that he was doing all in his power to ensure a positive and enjoyable experience for the young people he worked with.
I will miss talking to John and working with him in the classroom and the energy and positivity he brought with him.

I didn’t know John, but as a member of NBS and NTU I wanted to share my deepest sympathies for his friends and families at this time. John was a talented student with a bright future, he will be in my prayers at this time.

I am so saddened to hear about John's passing. John was very lovely and sweet and one of the kindest persons I have met. John and I worked together on most shifts and there was so much I learned from him. He always helped me with nerves before and during a shift and was willing to offer assistance when it was needed. He had a presence that filled the whole room and he will be missed. Wishing you comfort and peace.

Our paths crossed only briefly, but your humour and lightness made an instant impression. I am so sad that you’ve left this world so soon. Rest in peace, John, and condolences to all who knew you.

John was a wonderful person to work with on the Outreach scheme, and his fun, vibrant personality definitely stuck with me. I only knew him briefly, and i can't image the pain for his family. I hope that they read these messages and feel pride knowing that they helped raise such a lovely person, who will definitely be remembered. Thank you.
