Monique Woods

It is with real sadness that we heard of the death of Monique Woods. Monique was studying a Masters in Fashion Communication in the Nottingham School of Art and Design, and previously studied an MBA at Nottingham Business School and Political Science and Government in her undergraduate studies.

Monique was a very popular student and friend. She excelled both professionally and academically; her tutors have described her as a powerhouse - a source of great energy and independence. She was outgoing, confident and self-assured and was an inspiration to many of her fellow students and friends.

Monique loved to travel and explore new cultures and had a genuine interest in people. She will be greatly missed in so many ways, she was at the heart of our postgraduate community, always contributing to conversations and sharing her industry-based insights. Our students admired her confidence, experience, and her leadership qualities, but most of all, her caring nature that touched many. She encouraged us to be more mindful in our personal and professional lives to make the planet a better place for everyone. Monique’s uplifting personality and positive contribution to her year group will remain an inspirational and enduring memory for us all.

Monique – you always wanted to make a difference in the work that you did and the people that you met along life’s journey – and you did that and more. You were a source of inspiration, leadership and strength reminding us all that people matter and we need to value humanity beyond everything. It’s been a privilege to have met and worked with you. Your love of travel and culture underpinned your balanced approach to life too and you loved and deserved your days in the sun. I'lll treasure our fun conversations that we had about travelling the world and how that was the best educator. You’ll always be there with your warm smile and vitality inspiring us to live life and do things better. Anne xx

I miss her everyday, but I know the only way to truly honor her will be to always remember the strength, wisdom and immeasurable life lessons that she passed on to us. I'm incredibly grateful to have met her this year and will never forget her.
