Book of condolences - Xavier Conway

The University understands how difficult it can be when we lose someone close to us. We have opened up this online book of condolence to bring together tributes.

If you would like to offer your condolences or pay tribute you are invited to leave a message on this page.

It is with real sadness when we heard of the passing of Xavier Conway. Xavier was in his 3rd and Final Year of study for a BA Hons Sociology degree. Our thoughts are very much with his family and friends at this sad time.

Xavier brought a special kind of light to our Sociology community here in the Department of Social and Political Sciences. From the very first day of joining, he had a way of making everyone feel seen and included — always greeting people with a warm smile or a kind word that instantly lifted moods. His curiosity and openness made him a natural connector, effortlessly bridging friendship groups and creating a sense of togetherness and solidarity wherever he went.

Xavier wasn’t just part of our student cohort — he was at the heart of it. His energy, kindness, and laughter helped shape the spirit of our people, and that impact continues to be felt. Though his absence leaves a space we all feel deeply, his presence lives on in the memories we share and the way he brought us all - students and staff alike - closer together. Xavier will always be part of us.

May he rest in peace.

Xavier, it was an absolute joy to know you and to teach you over the years. You had a wonderful ability to think critically about social issues, discuss these with an infectious passion, as well as teach me about many things which were happening around the world.

Beyond your brilliant brain!, your kindness, warmth, and relationship with your peers was evident and you were a joy to be around. I will always remember what a beautiful human being you were.

Rest in Peace, Xavier.
I will always remember your kindness - the most important thing in this world.

Xavier,
It was a pleasure to both teach and engage with you over the years. Your insight, empathy, and care were a highlight in our classes together. I still remember and hold very dear how you told me that my Queer History lecture resonated with you, and you were pleased for the depth of visibility within it. That kind of feedback and impact is exactly why I do this. Thank you for the impact you have made on me, it will not be forgotten. I'm forever grateful to have met you.

Rest in Power, Xavier.

I didn’t know much about Xavier, but I saw him around and in some lectures/workshops. He was so intelligent and seemed so kind and lovely. My heart goes out to those affected. May he rest in eternal peace.

I'll always remember Xavier as a wonderful, warm-hearted person who lit up the room with his presence. He was also a brilliant sociologist who had a genuine passion to make the world a better place. He did this simply through being himself and sharing his passion with everyone he spoke with.

He made the world a better place, and the world is more empty without him.

We will miss him dearly. Rest in Peace, Xavier. Your inspiration will always be with us.
