Book of condolences - Tony Mee

It is with great sadness that we announce the death of our colleague Tony Mee, Security Officer at NTU for over 9 years.

The University understands how difficult it can be when we lose someone close to us. We have opened up this online book of condolence to bring together tributes for Tony.

If you would like to offer your condolences or pay tribute you are invited to leave a message on this page.

Tony and his sons at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff Wales

Good friends are few and far between and Tony Mee was a true friend, with a heart as big as an ocean that was truly made of gold.

Our heart filled prayers go out to his family and everyone that was privileged enough to say they knew him, but most of all to his wife and sons, which he worshipped with everything he had, every minute of every day. We miss him dearly.

There will not be a funeral as Tony did not wish for this but there will be a memorial / celebration of his life and all who knew him will be welcome – details to follow from family.

The family have asked for any contributions to go to ’Notts and Lincs Air ambulance’ and in support of Ukraine if colleagues wish to.

Not quite sure I can find the words to reflect my shock and sadness. When I think of Brack, I think of Tony, the prefect position, in a great team. I can only imagine your sense of loss and the chasm in your life.
With deepest condolences. Michael

You made me feel so welcome when I first joined NTU all those years ago. Always a smile and a chat whenever I bumped into you in or out of work. Thoughts are with your family. You will be missed Tony.

A light has gone out at Brackenhurst. I will remember you with real fondness, your cheeky grin, your swaggering walk but most of all just 'you'. I keep expecting you to walk through the door, jangling your keys but it never happens ...........
You will be missed so very much, Tony.

Rest In Peace Tony. On behalf of me and the PFS lads you will leave a huge hole in the team at Brackenhurst and will be sadly missed by us all.

Well top banana you got your wish, I am now the Brack officer but never in a million years did I want it like this, rather have you here with me coming up to annoy you every now and then. It's just not the same here without you and I miss you loads.
Always made me laugh so much and thanks for all the help with the crafting lol.
Even writing this I'm struggling as it still doesn't seem real.
Miss you xx

Tony Mee, not sure where to start. What an absolute legend, you are missed by so many my friend.
Could not believe the news, still not really sunk in. Just not going to be the same again.
My heart and thoughts go out to Karen and the boys.

Going to miss our film reviews, along with the suppers. Rugby banter and watching the games. American Football nights and watching Motor sport especially F1. At future events, and every time I will have you in my thoughts, chuckling, as you would shout out ‘Referee!’ if there was a bad call or play. Made me laugh whenever we had a job on, it was ‘yes boss, or roger that!’
It was a privilege to know you. When someone mentions your name in the future, I can say proudly, Tony Mee, yes, I knew him, he was my friend.
Tony, you are truly missed, and always will be a ‘Top Banana!’ R.I.P

Per Ardua.

Mate... you will be missed such a lot, with your cheeky chat and joke playing. You did such loving hugs if we felt down.
Leaving behind such a huge hole which will never be filled.
God bless.

I only knew Tony for a short space of time, but in that time, it was always a pleasure to cross paths with him. It was always a laugh when we did, and he always offered me great advice, especially about Brack. He will be missed by everyone here at NTU, and my thoughts are with his family in this tough time. R.I.P Tony, gone but never forgotten.

There are no words to describe the loss felt at Brackenhurst, my deepest condolences go to his family.
It was a pleasure working with Tony, he always had a smile and something to say.
He would greet me with 'Morning Ma'am what do you know. He was a devoted family man who would do his best to help and support others. Tony will be missed by both staff and students.

No words can describe what a kind, caring person you was Tony. While covering brackenhurst I always looked forward to being on shift with you, you made the days pass easily and the laughs we had I will never forget, you always ended a chat with the words top banana or roger that.

I have known many characters in life and some I remember more than others. You Tony will always be at the forefront when I sit and recall people I have been blessed to have met as I’ve travelled life’s path.
When we first met quite a few years ago whilst working for Notts Police, I knew instantly that “I like this guy”. So when you joined us here at NTU I was over the moon to say the least, at the prospect of us again being colleagues. Unfortunately, when you moved out to Brack, we didn’t get to work together as much as I would have liked but when we did, it always turned out to be a massive catchup with family, rugby and past experiences being the topics. I will truly miss you mate, you leave a massive hole in my life that will remain forever.
My thoughts and prayers are with your family, you were the absolute “Top Banana”
Rest in peace Tony x

What can I say Tony, you will missed by everyone of your colleagues especially here at Brack always cheerful even at 3am when when you call me out "Dude I need ya" would be your rallying call. I'm going to miss your stories, advice and your total willingness to help where ever you can, but most of all the love you had for your family has taught us all what a true gent you were. A real top banana. R.I.P Big man.

As part of NTU, you will always be remembered. Whilst I didn't personally have the honour of meeting you, I can see that so many people found you to be a great person, who clearly adored his family, so that's good enough for me to salute you as a lovely guy who has clearly left us far too soon.

I worked with Tony on A Shift and it sounds cliché, but he was such a big character who I always looked forward to working with. The way he laughed always made me smile and I'll forever remember him. I really am going to miss you Tony!

Tony, I know you'll never read this but I'll compose it anyway out of respect for your passing. I couldn't believe my ears when I heard you'd left us. You were one of those people who is often, rightfully, described as "larger than life" - you didn't laugh, you bellowed; you didn't stand quietly, you drew the attention of every room you entered. In my personal experience you were the perfect colleague and the world will never be quite the same without you in it. I'll never forget how your loves for your family, rugby and cake (I'm pretty sure in that order) were always at the front and centre of your mind. I suppose death teaches us a lot about life, most importantly to appreciate those we truly value while they're by our sides. I always appreciated you, and now I regret that I never took the opportunity show it while it was there. I never thanked you for being kind to me, never thanked you for making me laugh, never thanked you for sharing your knowledge, your stories and your experiences of life. Perhaps one day I'll get to make you another strong cup of coffee and I'll do all of those things. We'll both have a good laugh and it'll be like you never left. So wherever you are now, so long and take care my friend. Cordially yours, Andy. PS: I can't bring myself to delete our WhatsApp chat yet, I'll cling to the memories for a little longer - at least if that's OK with you, boss.
