Career overview

Prior to joining Nottingham Trent University, Tarek held the positions of a Visiting Lecturer at the University of Nottingham and a Lecturer at the University of Huddersfield. He holds a PhD in Accounting and Finance from the University of Nottingham and a Postgraduate Certificate in Higher Education (PGCHE) from the University of Huddersfield.

Tarek is a Fellow of Advance HE (FHEA) and has more than ten years of academic experience. In his current role, he teaches both undergraduate and postgraduate modules. He also supervises students’ research projects.

Research areas

Tarek's current research interest lies in addressing contemporary issues in corporate governance (including board diversity and executive pay), sustainable accounting (including social and environmental accounting) and corporate reporting (including CSR reporting, financial reporting, and political disclosure). His research has been presented in several national and international conferences, including the 2023 Conference of the BAFA Corporate Finance and Asset Pricing SIG (University of Nottingham), the 2021 International Corporate Governance Conference (Cardiff University), and the 2015 Annual Meeting of the American Accounting Association.
