Role

Yvonne is Head of Department, Human Resource Management, and has a School wide role as Head of International Affairs. Yvonne completed her Doctoral Studies in 2002 when she researched the impact of organisational change processes on occupational roles and professional identities in the Health Service. Yvonne has almost twenty years’ experience of working in the UK Higher education system with more than ten years of this in a senior management role. She has worked extensively in the field of transnational education through course design, international projects, student and faculty mobility, managing portfolios, accreditation processes and resource planning.

As Head of the Human Resource Department Yvonne provides strategic leadership in the field of HRM. In her School wide role as Head of International Affairs Yvonne leads the School’s International Office being responsible for external international relations. She is a member of the School Executive, and sits on a number of School strategic committees including Programme Review Committee, Faculty Resource Committee, and Accreditation and Review Committee. Yvonne represents the Business School on the University International Committee.

Research areas

Yvonne’s doctoral studies focused on the impact of organisational change on professional and occupational identities, from which she has published in peer review journals. More recently, her research emphasis has two strands - pedagogic and International Human Resource Management. Pedagogical research includes internationalisation of the curriculum, in particular with relation to student and faculty mobility. Her present research in this area is on Internationalisation at home (but from an International Human Resource Management lens), where she is presently investigating impacts of levels of cultural intelligence amongst faculty. Additionally Yvonne is involved in a joint project with the Management School, University of Liverpool – Personalisation of student learning from a self – concept perspective. Yvonne has 5 doctoral completions to date (4 DBA, 1 PhD), and is currently supervising 5 DBA, and 1 PhD. She also acts as a University Chair and Internal Examiner for doctoral vivas.

External activity

Yvonne is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, an Academic Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development, and a Fellow of the Chartered Management Institute. Yvonne is a mentor for both the EFMD Executive Academy and the Chartered Association of Business Schools’ mentorship scheme. Yvonne is Vice Chair of the Chartered Association of Business Schools’ International Committee, and is an appointed member of the EFMD Executive Academy Alumni Board. Yvonne has been a Visiting Professor at a number of overseas institutions, including the University of Valencia, KEDGE Business School and the University of Victoria, Vancouver Island, Canada.

Yvonne has held a number of External Examiner roles and has been an invited external panel member at a number of UK Business Schools. Yvonne is a reviewer for the British Council Newton Fund, and also reviews journal submissions for Personnel Review and Culture and Organisation.
